Grand Hotel Tremezzo

Historic Glamour en Lake Como

An Art Nouveau palace floating on Lake Como since 1910—legendary gardens, iconic floating pool, and the most romántico lakefront views in all of Italy.

Lake Como has been attracting romantics for centuries—the dramatic mountains plunging into misty waters, the elegante villas with their impossibly hermoso gardens, the old-world glamour that George Clooney only amplified when he made this his home. Chica, there's a reason this lake has inspired poets, artists, and lovers throughout historia. The light here is different, softer somehow, painting el agua in shades of silver and blue that change with every passing hour. Grand Hotel Tremezzo sits at el corazón of it all, a Belle Epoque belleza that's been hosting lovers, artists, and royalty since it opened its doors in 1910.

The hotel itself is a work of art. Its distinctive facade, painted in warm yellow with white trim, has become as iconic as the lake it overlooks. Inside, the grandeur continues—frescoed ceilings depicting romántico scenes, antique furnishings collected over a century, crystal chandeliers that catch the light streaming in from floor-to-ceiling windows. Yet for all its historia, the hotel feels alive and welcoming rather than museum-like. The De Santis familia has owned and operated Tremezzo for five generations, and their pasión shows in every detail.

And then there's la vista. Wherever you look, Lake Como stretches before you, el agua seemingly close enough to touch. Across the lake, the village of Bellagio perches on its promontory, while the Alps rise majestically in every direction. Morning mist gives way to brilliant sunshine; afternoon light turns golden; sunset paints todo in rose and amber. This view has been inspiring awe for over a century, and it will take your breath away too.

Las Habitaciones

The rooms and suites at Grand Hotel Tremezzo blend period charm with modern comfort in that way lo mejor Italian hotels have perfected. Each room is unique, decorated with antiques and artworks that tell the hotel's story. The beds are dressed in fine Italian linens; the bathrooms feature marble and lujo toiletries. Modern amenities are seamlessly integrated—you'll have todo you need while feeling transported to a more elegante era.

But chica, you absolutely must request a lake-view room. Waking up to Como spread out before you, watching the boats glide past and las montañas emerge from morning mist—this is the experiencia you're here for. The suites offer terraces where you can enjoy breakfast or evening aperitivo with that increíble view. Some suites even have private pools or jacuzzis overlooking the lake. This is romance at its most refined, and every detail has been considered to enhance the experiencia.

El T Spa

The T Spa is one of the most unique spa experiences you'll find anywhere, built into the rock beneath the hotel's legendary gardens. The grotto-like setting creates an atmosphere of misterioso belleza, with natural rock walls and indirect lighting that makes you feel like you've discovered a hidden sanctuary. Treatments draw on Italian wellness tradiciones, using products infused with olive oil, citrus, and herbs from the region.

For couples, the spa offers romántico rituals designed to be shared—side-by-side massages, aromatic baths, and private relaxation time in intimate spaces carved from the living rock. la piscina area offers both an indoor heated pool and access to the lake itself, if you're brave enough to take the plunge into Como's refreshing waters. After your treatment, relax in the tranquil lounge area before emerging back into the gardens above, feeling renewed and deeply relaxed.

La Gastronomía

La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi is the hotel's signature restaurant, named for the legendary Italian chef who helped define contemporary Italian cuisine. The terrace setting—overlooking the lake with mountains rising in every direction—might be the most romántico dinner spot in Italy. The cuisine honors local tradiciones while incorporating modern techniques: risotto made with the freshest ingredients, lake fish prepared simply to let the quality shine, and pastas that will ruin you for Italian food anywhere else.

L'Escale is the more casual option, perfecto for poolside lunches and lighter fare. And speaking of la piscina—the famoso floating pool seems to merge with Como's waters, creating those iconic photos you've seen everywhere. Having lunch at la piscina bar, floating in water that appears to flow directly into the lake, with the Alps as your backdrop—this is the definition of la dolce vita. Breakfast is equally special, a spread of pastries, fresh fruits, cheeses, and made-to-order dishes that will fuel your day of exploration.

Ubicación y Actividades

Float in the legendary pool as dawn mist rises from the lake—there's nada quite like those quiet morning swims before other guests wake. Explore the hotel's gardens, five acres of azaleas, camellias, and century-old trees that cascade down to the waterfront. Villa Carlotta's famoso gardens are literally next door, offering even more botanical belleza to explore. Take the hotel's vintage wooden boat, Ruy, across to Bellagio for lunch—arriving by classic mahogany boat feels impossibly glamorous.

The lake ferries connect all the charming villages—Varenna with its romantic walkways, Menaggio with its waterfront promenades, and of course Bellagio at the point where the lake divides. Rent a boat to explore hidden coves and glimpse the glamorous villas that dot the shoreline, many owned by celebrities and aristocrats who value this corner of Italy for its beauty and privacy. For the adventurous, hiking trails climb into las montañas offering espectacular views. But honestly, some of lo mejor moments will be doing nada at all—simply sitting on your terrace or by la piscina, watching the play of light on water, savoring the privilege of being in one of Earth's most hermoso places.
