Latina Power Destinations - Oaxaca

Mi Tierra, Mi Corazón

Indigenous art, incredible cuisine, and the soul of México in every corner—Oaxaca is where our roots run deepest and our pride shines brightest.

There are places that touch your soul, and then there's Oaxaca. This is where México's heart beats strongest—in the hands of artisans weaving centuries-old traditions into vibrant textiles, in the kitchens where recipes passed down through generations create the most complex moles you'll ever taste, in the mezcalerías where each sip tells a story of the land.

For me, as a Mexicana, Oaxaca is coming home to a part of myself I didn't know I was missing. It's feeling the power of our indigenous heritage in the ancient ruins of Monte Albán, seeing our creativity in the alebrijes of Arrazola, and tasting our soul in every bite of tlayuda. This is Latina power in its purest form.

The Experience

Take a cooking class to learn the art of mole negro. Visit the textile cooperatives in Teotitlán del Valle and watch masters work their magic on traditional looms. Explore the petrified waterfalls of Hierve el Agua. And when night falls, the mezcal bars of the centro histórico come alive with music, laughter, and that unmistakable Oaxaqueño warmth.

Sofia's Tips

Stay at Casa Oaxaca or Hotel Escondido for boutique luxury with soul. The markets—especially Mercado Benito Juárez and 20 de Noviembre—are essential; try the chocolate caliente and chapulines if you're brave. Visit during Día de los Muertos for an unforgettable experience. And please, learn to appreciate mezcal properly—it's an art form here, not just a drink.

Oaxaca reminded me where I come from.
